HAWAII 2021

Things to know

flight:

Hawaiian Airlines: Non-Stop flight| From New York’s JFK Airport to Honolulu’s Airport. The flight was about 10 hours and about 9 hours returning. The flight wasn’t bad at all being that it was non-stop. Like any other airline the food wasn’t the best but flight was relaxing and the staff were great!

Currency:

Hawaii is apart of the United States, the USD is used.

Temperature:

Overall for the time on the island, the temperature was around 90 degrees each day (end of July) It is very hot, but being that it is surrounded by water, there was a nice breeze with the heat. One thing that I thought was pretty cool is the day rain shower. After asking about the mysterious mist I felt daily, it actually comes from the mountains. It rains often in the mountains, the mist from the rain then drops down to the ground.

Transportation:

Besides walking our main source of transportation was Lyft.

Depending on where you choose to stay in Honolulu will play apart of this. Shops and restaurants are all in walking distance on the main strip. If you plan on leaving the main area I would recommend a tour guide to explore (especially if you are not familiar with where you are going) or Lyft/Uber. Lyft rates were more reasonable than Uber however, compare both where requesting a ride. Also, take note that Lyft/Uber were both limited on drivers at the time.

Car rentals are very pricing per day so be sure to plan and book in advance.

Communication:

Your phone will continue to work properly in Hawaii. Take in consideration the time difference from home.

Where I stayed

OFFICIAL ROOM TOUR WILL BE INCLUDED IN VLOG… STAY TUNED!

Grand Islander by Hilton:

Overall the hotel was great! The staff were helpful, room was clean. pool area was clean. The hotel was one of many by Hilton in the area, which were also connected to a nice beach, restaurants, and shops. There was even a Louis Vuitton on site. Grand Islander is walking distance to the main strip which is very convenient.

**My parents stayed at Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort and Spa. Their hotel was beautiful too with a wonderful view. This hotel is right near the main strip and literally across the street from the beach.

Things to do

Explore:

Honolulu is a site to see! It is a must you get out and explore the beautiful island. We were so blessed to have found Ray, a tour guide. He took us all around the island to secret beaches, breathtaking views, and amazing food. Ray took us to a macadamia farm, one of the world’s most beautiful beach, to an area with a number of top rated food trucks, turtle beach, and number of other hidden gems. He will pick everyone up at their hotels and take you and your group on day of adventures. our overall experience with Ray was 10/10

shop:

SHOP, SHOP, SHOP until you drop. Honolulu has transitioned into a luxury shopping central. With huge malls and low luxury good prices. Luxury shopping is big in Hawaii, they are said to have many discounts on luxury goods.

Beach:

The beaches were amazing! We spent a day at Waikiki Beach, which was beautiful. There are many beaches to explore, relax and have fun at!

Where to eat

Cheeseburger Paradise:

This was the first place I ate at when I arrived in Hawaii. I got the impossible burger, which was great! So great that I went there again during my trip. Everyone had something good to say about what they ordered and the service was fast with great staff.

OMG Mexican grill:

Literally chipotle’s little cousin!!! The set up and the food reminded me so much of chipotle. OMG Mexican had burritos, bowls, quesadilla, etc. They also had great drinks. I would recommend if you are looking for something quick.

Ya Ya’s Steakhouse:

We went here for my father’s birthday dinner and it was amazing!!! The music was on point, and the food was so so tasty. I had the salmon and we shared the sides. The creamy spinach, and mashed potatoes were great! I would definitely recommend. 10/10

Mike’s Huli huli chicken:

This place was at the top of the list to try after seeing it on Diners. Dine-ins, and Drives. While on our tour with Ray (mentioned above) he took us to try it. I don’t eat chicken but everyone else said it was some of the best chicken they’ve ever had. The rice and shrimp I did try and it was soo good. It was covered with a with an amazing garlic, butter sauce, which is popular for the shrimp in Hawaii. If you’re able to make it to the truck I highly recommend!

Papi’s tacos:

Some of the best tacos I've ever had! The shrimp had a nice spice to it and the flavor of everything was on point. 10/10 This truck was also in the same area as Mike’s Huli Huli Chicken.

Marukame Udon Waikiki:

I didn’t personally eat here but some of the family did and they said it was really good. Hawaii has lots of udon and ramen restaurants, I would recommend trying this one or another one out while visiting.

Covid

My trip was in July 2021. During this tie if you are vaccinated you did not have to get tested for Covid prior to getting to Hawaii. However, if you were not vaccinated you had to have a negative Covid test within 72 hours of heading to Hawaii. For both situations, one must upload either their vaccination on card info or Covid results into a portal prior to boardng flight. No one was required to have a covid test before heading back from Hawaii. Please note my trip was in July and requirements made have changed since. Do your own research and keep up with any updates regarding Covid and traveling.
